FAQ
Questions, answered straight.
Everything people ask before the first call. If yours is not here, ask us and we will answer it plainly.
Where is CTRL-V Digital based?
Johannesburg, South Africa. CTRL V (Pty) Ltd is a registered South African company, CIPC number 2023/113778/07. We work with clients in South Africa and the United Kingdom, and we are comfortable operating across both time zones.
What does CTRL-V Digital actually do?
We are a software studio. We design, build, integrate and maintain custom software, apps and platforms for businesses — and then we keep them running. That covers custom applications, architecture and integration, web and mobile, embedded senior developers, data and cloud work, and long-term support.
Do you only work with South African clients?
No. We work with South African and UK businesses. South African clients are billed in rand; UK and international clients are billed in pounds. Cross-border delivery is normal for us, not an exception.
How big is the team?
Deliberately small and deliberately senior. You get engineers who have shipped and supported production systems, not a pyramid with a salesperson at the top and juniors underneath. If a project needs more hands, we say so before we start rather than quietly staffing it thin.
How do you charge?
Most work runs as a monthly retainer against an agreed scope, which suits ongoing product development and embedded team work. Discrete, well-bounded pieces can be fixed-price. We will tell you which one fits before you commit.
How long does a typical engagement last?
Our engagements tend to run in years rather than weeks. We build systems that someone has to live with afterwards, so we would rather be the people who stay and maintain them. Short, scoped pieces are welcome too.
What technologies do you work in?
Our deepest production experience is .NET and the Microsoft/Azure stack, alongside modern web front-ends, Python, and cloud infrastructure on Azure and Cloudflare. We choose boring, well-supported technology on purpose — someone has to maintain this in five years.
Can you take over software somebody else built?
Yes, and we do it regularly. We start by reading the code and documenting what is actually there — an honest as-is assessment before anyone promises a rewrite. Most inherited systems need repair and documentation far more than they need replacing.
Do you build things with AI in them?
Where it genuinely removes work, yes — automation, data extraction, and assistive features inside real products. We also build and run our own AI-backed product, We Answer Every Call, which keeps us honest about what these systems do and do not do reliably in production.
Who owns the code you write?
You do. Intellectual property in client work transfers to the client, and the code lives in a repository you control. We do not hold your business hostage in an account only we can log in to.
What happens if we want to stop working with you?
You take the code, the documentation and the infrastructure, and we help you hand it over. Everything we build is written to be picked up by another team; that is the point of building it properly.
How do we start?
Email info@ctrlv.digital with a couple of sentences about the problem. The first conversation is a conversation, not a pitch — we work out whether this is something we should be doing for you at all.
Next step
Tell us what is not working.
One email, a short conversation, and an honest answer about whether we are the right people for it. No pitch deck.
